Pittsburgh Cares Youth Advisory Council ( YAC )

Julianna Winkowski and Josh Gildea are serving as youth ambassadors for a leadership development program giving students a voice concerning topics important to teens in Pittsburgh . The sophomores participate in personal and professional trainings and networking opportunities through Pittsburgh Cares Youth Advisory Council . They are committed to developing volunteer projects within our school and neighborhood to promote a positive social change and have been provided with $ 1,000 each to lead their service activities . Brentwood High School students will be asked to assist with the projects this spring .

Brentwood Middle School Students “ Explore ” Their Interests By : Mr . David Radcliffe
Twice each year , the students at Brentwood Middle School have the opportunity to take a break for their normal classroom routine to explore personal interests they have in common with the teaching staff . The “ Exploratory ” program consists of each middle school teacher selecting a hobby or activity that they want to share with the students . This year , students had 16 sessions to choose from including :

Food Decorating Making Beaded Jewelry Ping Pong Tournament Golf Lessons Making Perfume BINGO Scrapbooking Volleyball

The Exploratory program has become an annual tradition at the middle school and helps to foster positive relationships between the students and staff . The teachers get to know students that they may not have in class while the students get to see the teachers from a different perspective . The students are often surprised to discover that they share many of the same interests and talents with the adults in the building ! Exploratory is just one of the many traditions that helps to make Brentwood Middle School such a special place !
