BOROUGH NEWS
A MESSAGE FROM THE DESK OF

MAYOR DENNIS H . TROY cKeesport rentwood

CITY BRIEFLY OF MCKEESPORT BRENTWOOD NEWS
Spring has sprung and the prospect of enjoyable times with family , friends and teammates is at hand . It is this time of year when Brentwood shines best with our beautiful park and the walking venue that Brownsville Road provides .
With the turn of the weather to the better , we yet again have been conducting our weekly Clean Up Details with Chief Zeppuhar and Building Inspector Costa . These roving inspections provide us with an opportunity to walk every street in the community , identifying conditions that threaten the health and welfare of our residents throughout our Beloved Brentwood . Once identified , corrective action is then taken to address these problems .
I am pleased that at the end of 2016 we entered into a new four ( 4 ) year contract with our Brentwood Police Bargaining Unit . With a new contract in place , we can continue to focus our efforts of making our police department a model unit for best practices in our region . Under the leadership of Chief Zeppuhar , a 2016 Graduate of the prestigious National FBI Academy , these fine officers will continue to receive our commitment to excellence and our strong appreciation for their dedication and service to our community .
It is no secret that while we enjoy a very nice quality of life in our Beloved Brentwood , we are not immune to the opiate addiction epidemic that is sweeping the nation . This burgeoning problem knows no socioeconomic bounds and is just as prevalent in the most of affluent communities as it is in others . In 2014 , Chief Zeppuhar and I joined an effort with Representative Harry Readshaw , residents and other law enforcement agencies and judicial representatives to address this problem in the South Hills . These efforts have resulted in further collaboration and involvement of our officers with other agencies , many times cutting off supply from other communities into ours . Furthermore , Representative Readshaw introduced a package of bills to address treatment and implementation of mandatory minimum jail sentences for those engaged in profiting off the illnesses of our community . As your Mayor , I also testified before a State House Committee in 2016 in support of Representative Readshaw ’ s bills and on the dangers of opiate addiction and its impact on communities .
I would be remiss if I did not congratulate the Brentwood Dukes Youth Football Organization for winning two ( 2 ) Championships this past football season . The Dukes Flag ( 6 / 7 Year Old ) and Midget ( 12 / 13 Year Old ) teams won the Mon Valley Youth Football Association Superbowl Championships . It was indeed my honor to be a coach on the 12 / 13 Year Old Team under the direction of Head Coach Mick Troy and with my son , Alec , on the team .
Respectfully , Mayor Dennis H . Troy
