FIVE INDUCTED INTO ALUMNI HALL OF FAME

Bethel Park High School welcomed five new inductees into the Bethel Park Great Alumni Hall of Fame , at a ceremony held on Friday , January 27 .

The Bethel Park Great Alumni Hall of Fame was created in 2013 to recognize and honor Bethel Park High school alumni who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments either personally or professionally after graduating from Bethel Park High School .
Honorees are selected because they either significantly improved the lives of others , contributed significant volunteer or community service , or achieved significant advancement in their professional field .
Congratulations to this year ’ s distinguished honorees :
Carl G . Amrhein , Class of 1974 , was an award winning teacher and scholar throughout his academic career at the University of Toronto as a Professor , and at the University of Alberta , where he served as a Professor , Provost and Academic Vice President . In those positions , he worked to create innovative learning opportunities for students , including helping to develop numerous programs overseas , particularly in China and Germany , supporting experiential learning opportunities on and off campus . Throughout his career , he displayed a deep commitment to support Indigenous students . In 2015 he became the Deputy Minister of Health for the Government of Alberta . He has been recognized for his service to higher education by student organizations and universities in Canada , Africa , Asia , and Europe . He is currently a member of Fulbright Canada : Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America ; and a Fellow , Royal Canadian Geographic Society .
Dave Levy , Class of 1985 , began his career as a video assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers , where he worked throughout high school and college . After his stint with the Steelers , Dave was hired as the Video Director of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the age of 20 . He was elected by his peers to serve on the NFL Video Directors Committee , and served as the Video Director for the NFL Scouting Combine for 16 years , as well as the Buccaneers ’ representative at the NFL Draft . Several employees under his guidance have gone on to achieve success in the football video industry . Dave was presented with a Super Bowl ring after the Buccaneers ’ victory in Super Bowl XXXVII . Though widely regarded as the best in the business , he has found the time to serve as a program volunteer and coach with youth sports in the North Tampa area .
Dan Martell , PhD ., Class of 1976 , is one of the most experienced forensic neuropsychologists in the United States , with over 25 years of clinical forensic involvement in both criminal and civil litigation . He completed his clinical internship and a post-doctoral fellowship in forensic psychology at Bellevue Hospital and New York University Medical Center in New York City , where he specialized in forensic neuropsychology . He consulted on hundreds of forensic cases in over 30 states and internationally , specializing in issues of mental disorder , brain damage , and violent criminal behavior . He is a Past President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA . He has authored over 100 scientific journal articles and research presentations at national conferences .
Charles Vaughn Strimlan , MD , Class of 1963 , has devoted his life ’ s work in medicine solely in the Pittsburgh area . He practiced Pulmonary Medicine from 1976- 2010 , primarily at St . Clair and Mercy Hospitals , as their first full time lung specialist . Among Dr . Strimlan ’ s various achievements , he received the Outstanding Physician of the Year award in 2005 at St . Clair Hospital . In 2010 , Dr . Strimlan became Board-certified in Hospice-Palliative Care Medicine and now works in end-of-life care . Also , in semi-retirement , he works in an opiate drug addiction clinic .
Daniel L . Svaranowic , Class of 1985 , began his career in public service in 1989 , when he earned a commission as an Army Officer through ROTC upon graduating from Duquesne University . He served on active duty in the Army for 20 years , including a tour in Operation Desert Storm , two tours in Germany and one tour in South Korea . In 1995 , he became the first Army Finance Corps Officer assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group , serving as the Group Comptroller . Among his Army awards are the Parachutist Badge , Legion of Merit , and Meritorious Service Medal . After retirement from the Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel , Dan continued his public service , first as an Army civil servant , and then serving the past six years as a civil servant with the U . S . General Services Administration .
