Jurassic Park Answers When the velociraptors are barking at each other to communicate, this is actually the sound of tortoises mating! When they are breathing in the kitchen scene, this sound is that of a horse and when they hiss, you are actually hearing a goose! Also, one of the key elements in the raptor screams is a dolphin squeal. The Brachiosaurs, and their singing, are actually created from donkey vocals, slowed down, and when they sneeze, the sound is a mixture of a whale blowhole and a fire hydrant! The Gallimimus, the flock that stampede as the characters hide behind a fallen tree, sound like horses, because they are! The Triceratops sounds were mostly made by cows, however the Sound Designer also used a long cardboard tube with a spring in it, a reverb device, and breathed into it, to create the sounds that are heard when the sickly triceratops is having trouble breathing. The T-Rex is one of the largest animals in Jurassic Park, but some of its key noises cane from the Sound Designer, Gary Rydstrom's Jack Russell Terrier, Buster! They also used sounds of a baby elephant, slowed down. Finally, the Dilophosaurus, the hissing, spitting dinosaur that Dennis encounters, is created by a swan initially, when it sounds cute, and then when it becomes fearsome, there is the sounds of a rattlesnake and also a hawk. 24 | FUSE
