Busuu

‘busuu.com is an innovative online community for
learning languages. We have personally suffered from the
traditional way to learn a new language which we always
found expensive, difficult and boring. Therefore, we decided to
create a new concept of language learning by offering you the
following advantages:
Learn from native speakers: Learn directly from native
speakers of the busuu.com community via our integrated
video-chat application! By doing so you can practice your
language skills in a live conversation.
Learn with our material: We have prepared over 150 learning
units covering diverse topic areas and grammar units covering
the most important grammar points! The content is image and
sound-based.
Learn for free: busuu.com can be used completely for free!
However, you have the option to pay a minimal monthly fee to
become a Premium Member. With that Premium Membership
you gain access to additional functionalities and more
material.’
Duolingo

‘Learners study vocabulary
and build it into simple
sentences though reading,
writing, listening and speaking, with grammar tips along
the way. There’s also an ‘Immersion’ resource with authentic
reading materials and a translation option for difficult
passages.’
Memrise
www.memrise.com
‘There are thousands of courses on Memrise - all free and all
created by other members of the community. Courses are
available in many languages, for many languages and other
subjects. If we don’t have what you want, join in and make
your own! Learn the course using our science-based learning
techniques. Bring learning to life with mems - little snippets of
imagination and humour that make things easy to remember.
Earn points whilst you learn, and compete against friends.
Thanks to our spaced repetition scheme you’ll practice items
you’ve learnt before again in the future - earn more points for
remembering them for longer lengths of time.’

‘If you’re a teen looking for an off-the-charts,
world-rocking high school volunteer abroad
experience, you came to the right place.
What’s a Raspberry Pi?
CCS teen summer service trips are for high school
students ages 15-17. The High School Volunteer
Abroad program offers you an awesome opportunity
to volunteer side-by-side with local people and new
friends on a teens-only group volunteering project in
our dedicated Costa Rica, India, Peru, Ghana, Tanzania
and Guatemala High School Volunteer Abroad HomeBases. You’ll participate in tons of cultural activities
and supervised excursions during the week and on
weekends, so if you’re looking to pick up some Latin
American dance moves or have been daydreaming
about splashing around in an African waterfall, we got
you covered.’
United Planet
www.unitedplanet.org
‘United Planet’s Volunteer Abroad Quest program
is a perfect opportunity for 16 to 18 year olds
looking for an international opportunity.
The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card
sized computer that plugs into
your TV and a keyboard. It’s a
capable little PC which can be
used for many of the things
that your desktop PC does, like
spreadsheets, word-processing
and games. It also plays high-definition video. We
want to see it being used by kids all over the world
to learn programming.
Where can I buy one?
You can buy the Raspberry Pi through Premier
Farnell/Element 14 and RS Components. Both
distributors sell all over the world.
What will I get when I buy one?
You will get the Raspberry Pi Board itself. A power
supply or SD cards are not included but can be
purchased at the same time from Farnell and RS.
You will be able to buy preloaded SD cards too.
Our dedicated team is happy to work with you to
provide you with the most meaningful experience
possible. As a teen volunteer on a United Planet Quest
you will have the opportunity to develop many skills
including:
How do I get started?
• Language skills
All of the information above, and much, much
more can be found at www.raspberrypi.org.
• Cross-cultural communication abilities
• International work experience
• Participate in many exciting excursions and
activities
•
United Planet teen volunteers can expect to
work between 30 and 40 hours per week at
their project placement. As part of your
program fee, you will also take part in cultural
activities and go on excursions to sites of historical
and archaeological importance, such as Machu
Picchu in Peru, and Dracula’s Castle in Romania.’
