ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΑΚΙ ΑΪ-ΓΙΩΡΓΗ
Ταυτισμένο με τον προστάτη του χωριού
Αϊ-Γιώργη, οι εκδηλώσεις του συνδυάζουν
θρησκευτικό, πολιτιστικό και ιστορικό
χαρακτήρα! Οι εορτασμοί για το 2017 θα
κρατήσουν από την Πρωτομαγιά έως και τις
4 Μαΐου με λιτάνευση της ιερής εικόνας του
Αγίου Γεωργίου, κανονιοβολισμούς, παραδοσιακά τραγούδια και χορούς στην πλατεία
Παπαϊωάννου και την πλατεία Λάκκα, τον
περίφημο «Δρόμο των Γερόντων», όπου
ηλικιωμένοι, φορώντας φουστανέλες,
τρέχουν στο πεδίο της νικηφόρας μάχης του
Καραϊσκάσκη το 1826, και αθλητικά δρώμενα. Η αυλαία πέφτει με τον τελετουργικό
αραχωβίτικο χορό στην κεντρική πλατεία

ST. GEORGE’S SMALL FESTIVAL The festival is identified with the village’s patron saint,
St. George, and the celebrations have a religious
character, as well as a cultural and a historical
one. The cultural events for 2017 will take place
from the 1st of May up to the 4th of May. They
will include a litany of the holy icon of St. George,
cannonades, folk songs and dancing at Papaionannou square and Lakka square, the wellknown “Dromos ton Geronton” (Road of the Old),
–the seniors wearing foustanellas (traditional
pleated skirt-like garments) run to the field of the
1826 victorious battle of Karaiskakis– and a series of sports events. The festivities are brought
to a close with the ritual dance of Arachova at
