ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Enjoying the views in San Francisco. “In order to move forward and constantly be challenged, it’s important to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge.” What advice would you offer alumni looking to move up the management chain at a large company like Sony? I was promoted from the position of Senior Manager of Process and Systems to General Manager of Business Solutions for Europe, while studying at Hult. I manage a bigger team now, consisting of ten people located across Europe and India, working with cross-functional teams in the U.S. and Japan. So, from personal experience, I would say be brave. Challenge yourself every year and never stop acquiring knowledge. Another vital element of moving up in any industry is to network as much as you can. I made sure that I regularly networked with other cohorts and rotated to almost all campuses at Hult, building up my international contacts and learning about new cultures that I was previously unfamiliar with. As a manager, it’s your job to identify the best qualities in people, so befriend people you work with, regardless of level. For those gradually working their way up, never burn any bridges—a happy attitude is undoubtedly the key to career success, and beyond.
