ALUMNI COMMUNITY
Washington , D . C ., U . S . A .
Thandi Young Master of Business Administration , 2010
What motivates you to lead your Chapter ?
I had an amazing experience at Hult , and I love the school and what it stands for , so when I moved to Washington , I looked for the local Chapter . I took on planning events with the help of Maria Pia Carbonnell and Alex Franklin . Recently I had the opportunity to lead the Chapter alongside Fiona MacNialis and Pia — we could not have been a top Chapter without their hard work .
What events and initiatives have you implemented to become a top-performing Chapter ?
We like to make sure we give alumni a variety of things that will help them to grow professionally as well as socially . For example , we recently hosted our second Lunch and Learn series , where we invited guest speakers to speak on networking , as requested by alumni . An executive coach also came in which was really useful .
What are your biggest challenges ?
While we have had a lot of successes , it can be more difficult to encourage participation due to our location . As we have no campus in the city , we have fewer graduates settling nearby . We also have alumni here who graduated from the school when it was known as the Arthur D . Little School of Management , which presents some challenges with engagement . As these alumni have been away from the school such a long time , it can be harder to get them involved .
What is the most unique thing about your Chapter community ?
We have a smaller , but very diverse alumni base from Hult campuses all around the world , so the Washington Chapter is great for networking . With so many different business backgrounds , the Chapter also provides a great resource for alumni looking to move into another field .
Best Chapter moment ?
A couple of months ago , we had an alum in our Chapter looking for a new job . He came to an event to network , and heard about several career opportunities . For me , that is what it ’ s all about . I enjoy connecting people .
