You might be saying to yourself at this point, “this all sounds great, but I am a trainer myself” or
“I do a ton of research on proper form and training, why would I need all this?”
I’ll give you an example. I have a personal friend, who is also a talented trainer. He had injured his
lower bicep while training and had pursued various avenues to heal this injury (time off,
stretching, etc). I talked him into coming in for an assessment. We found that a small muscle
underneath the bicep was tight due to a few trigger points and was therefore limiting his elbow
range of motion. We dry needled it a few times and he has not had problems since. On the other
end of the spectrum, I was lifting with my shoulder in a position that I knew wasn’t safe. The
problem was, that I couldn’t see/feel that it wasn’t in the correct position until a trainer
highlighted it. Point being, even if you know everything to do/not do you can still miss things or
not realize they are occurring.
This is why I suggest having “All Eyez on Me .” These different sets of eyes will be able to tease
out the faults you are unaware of and instruct you on how to fix or avoid them. The trainer, the
sports chiropractor and the nutritionist all complement each other very well. They all have a little
bit of overlapping knowledge which helps them to communicate and coordinate together. They all
also have a wealth of specific knowledge to benefit you in a variety of ways. Look for people who
have continued to further their expertise; who haven’t stopped bettering themselves after they got
their initial degree/certification. If you find the right people they will work together and they will
also give you the tools to NOT need them 24/7 allowing you to manage on your own when they
feel that you are ready. This will allow you to come to them from time to time to tweak things or
quickly tackle an injury in the acute phase. Remember, All Eyez on Me to remain injury free!
