Nancy's Story:
“This year was a milestone birthday, it was the year I turned 60. It also was a milestone
summer for my weight…I weighed more than I ever had in my life. My clothes were getting
tight and fitted shirts were showing a “Muffin Top”, but I thought I still can run a 5K , I
work out occasionally, and I try to eat right, so I shouldn’t worry about it, after all I am 60.
In July, my daughter, granddaughter and grandson came to visit. The girls worked out
while they were here. I watched them and I dabbled a little bit in the workouts with them,
but I got frustrated and could not keep up. They encouraged me and were very supportive,
but I was not happy with myself. This was an eye opening moment for me. I didn’t like it
nor did I like the way it made me feel. This was the first sign that I needed to make some
changes in my lifestyle.
After they left, I had some time for some self-reflection. Being healthy has always been an
important part of my life, but I was never consistent with diets and work-out plans. Like so
many people, my favorite New Year’s Resolution was to lose 10 pounds, and like so many
people, I stayed with it until March. Did I lose 10 pounds…no, usually it was between 5 and
7 pounds. Never met my goal.
