1) Get creative with your traditional recipes! Find healthy substitutions for some of the ingredients in your favorite recipes to keep traditions with a new twist. 2) Eat protein first. Start with chicken, turkey, ham at the meal, then move to vegetables and save the indulgences for the end of your meal do decrease the chance of over eating! 3) Exercise. Go for a family walk after meals to get moving! 4) Drink water. Stay hydrated by drinking around a gallon of water every day! 5) Eat at meal time. After the meal is over, put away the left over food instead of leaving it our for snacking! If a food is in plain sight, you will be more likely to eat it even if you are not hungry. 6) Do not skip a meal. Eat every 2-3 hours to avoid getting too hungry! 7) Eat slowly. Really enjoy the food that you are eating to decrease the risk of overindulging! 8) Sleep. Be sure to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night! 9) Think of health now! It is common this time of year to hear goals but many are put on hold to be a New Year’s Resolution. Instead, START NOW and be mindful of your actions through the holidays instead of throwing all of your daily habits out the door and using the holidays as an excuse! 10) Try new cooking methods. Roasting vegetables are a great way to add flavor without a lot of added calories! Experiment with new ways to cook your meats too such as using a smoker instead of the oven.
