HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL
Year 7 Arts Award
Over the summer
of 2015, a group of
14
students,
who
had recently left our
feeder schools and
who would be starting at Heritage High School in
September 2015, took part in an Arts Council Award.
The Arts Award is offered at five levels, with four
qualifications and these students undertook
the Arts Explore Award, which is an Entry
Level 3 qualification on the Qualifications and
Credit Framework (QCF), with further awards
for Bronze, Silver and Gold being available.
The Arts Award is a great way for young people
to be inspired by and enjoy the Arts in different
formats, and is a framework to allow young
people to learn new skills and to share these;
it gives the opportunity for young people to
develop their creativity and leadership skills.
During the transition summer school in August
2015, these students worked to produce a
video which showed their experiences during
the week and gave an insight into the activities
undertaken; this video is available to view on
the school website in the News & Events section.
This will again involve the making of a documentary
which is being commissioned in conjunction
with the local police force, and will be centred
around anti-social behaviour, and once produced
this will also be available on the school website.
A new way to record, track and monitor
homework at Heritage High School
We are excited to be
launching
Show
My
Homework, an online tool
to help you keep track of
your child’s homework.
Show
My
Homework
will allow you to see
the details of the tasks your child has been set.
You will be provided with login details to your
personal account, ready-linked to your child’s
homework calendar. These logins will be sent out 1
week after launching but don’t worry, you will still
be able to view all homework without a login using
the Show My Homework Calendar via our website.
The school has since undertaken further work
with a group of Year 8 students to undertake
their Bronze Award which saw the students
undertake a printing workshop in school, a visit
to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and students
researching different genres of art which
they then shared with the rest of the group.
Once you start using Show My Homework
you
will
receive
the
following
benefits:
• You will have 24/7 access.
• You will be able to view the quality and
quantity of homework.
• It can be translated into over 50 languages.
• There are free apps available for iPhone, iPad,
iPod Touch and Android devices.
• You will receive automated notifications before
homework is due.
We are regularly given the opportunity to work
on various projects with external providers
through our links with Bolsover District Council,
and we are pleased that the students who
successfully achieved their Arts Explore Award
are going to be working towards their Bronze
Award in school during the February holiday.
We will be launching Show My Homework on
11 April 2016 and we hope that this service
will provide parents with a deeper insight
into the homework your child receives. More
importantly, we hope that it will improve your
child’s organisation and time-management. It will
also help them to keep on top of their workload.
