ARRESTED MORE THAN 10 TIMES Before ANSELMO WAS JUST 10-YEARS-OLD WHEN HIS FATHER WAS MURDERED. FROM THEN ON, HE STARTED TO SMOKE, DRINK, AND DEVELOP A VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR… W hen I turned 16, I dropped out of school and I started to take drugs. I then had nightmares about my father coming back to life. I wanted revenge against the person who killed him. At the age of 22, I came to the UK looking for a new beginning. However, I became acquainted with someone, and I was soon taking drugs again. I was dependent on drugs such as heroin, crack, axis, and sleeping tablets. Consequently, my life was completely destroyed. My sister had moved to the UK, so I came to live with her. I would look after my nephew. One day, when I took him to the park, I became drunk and fell asleep. My nephew thought that I was dead, and the police came to get me. As a result of this, my sister kicked me out of the house, and I became even more lost. I then got involved with another woman, but because I was violent towards her, I was arrested. I was also arrested for stealing in shops. I wanted everything the easy way, so I would steal and sell stuff. I’ve been arrested more than 10 times. I found out about the UCKG HelpCentre because my mum was already a member. She would pray for me and take part in faith-related activities for me. I came to the HelpCentre completely lost. I felt like death was the only way out for me. I started to attend the Addiction Cleansing Therapy (ACT) meetings, and now I have been free from all addictions for over a year. I no longer have a desire to die. Those around me are overwhelmed by my change. I feel as if I have been born again. Anselmo Colsoul 39
