Motivating Children to Excel
“We are remarkable.” Three simple words used to describe the faculty
and students at HEB ISD’s Meadow Creek Elementary. Meadow Creek
has embraced these words and made them their theme. By doing so
they experience tremendous success in their PreK Core Knowledge
Program, Schools of Choice offerings, an influential and active PTA,
and engagement in the community.
The PreK Core Knowledge program provides well-rounded foundational education in all content
areas. History has shown this approach enhances the learning environment by providing a wide
spectrum of topics enabling each student and teacher to discover individual learning styles, strengths
and weaknesses. It is amazing to see what the four-year-olds can learn and apply in this contentrich program!
One School of Choice offering is Spanish Immersion, and in this classroom, the students are
definitely immersed. Students who start the program in first grade have 100 percent of their
academic instruction in Spanish, which continues through the sixth grade. Teachers and students
converse in Spanish, do their assignments in Spanish, and interact with each other, all in Spanish.
Teachers use songs, motion, pictures, and much creativity to help students learn and understand
the language at an early age. It is very impressive to see how the techniques used enable students
to quickly and fluently embrace and learn the beautiful Spanish language.
Meadow Creek PTA has a very active and enthusiastic membership. The PTA is a strong supporter
of Meadow Creek and works to help support the school by holding the annual Fall Festival, hosting
the Grandparents and Friends luncheon, providing the All Pro Dads Club meetings, and simply
providing fun and entertaining programs for students and parents. Meadow Creek PTA’s focus
is to provide great opportunities for the Meadow Creek students and families and to support the
outstanding educational experiences that the students receive every day.
In addition to work at the school, the Meadow Creek PTA has made connections with the business
community. With more than 50 Adopt-A-School partners providing additional resources for our
students, Meadow Creek has been recognized by HEB ISD for their efforts to be partners with local
businesses.
The students and the staff at Meadow Creek are clearly remarkable. The high academic results
come from the support of outstanding teachers, encouraging families and amazing students. The
students of Meadow Creek know the most important thing they do at school is learn, and their
positive approach makes learning at Meadow Creek achievable. There is a great sense of pride for
the school from students to teachers to parents.
