hospital site. The site is blessed
and she is returned to her
Taiwhakaea cemetery, Ohuirehe.
The foundations
of the new
building begin.

A History Wall shows the
timeline of Whakatane
Hospital from the 1900s
to today. An event is
held to unveil and bless
each of the panels of the
History Wall.
Construction
of the new
hospital
building
continues.

January
The finishing touches are put
on the building - walls are
painted and new equipment
begins to be installed. The
gardens in the central
courtyard are planted and the
playground is moved from the
current Children’s Ward to the
courtyard.

Staff begin their
training and
orientation in the
new building.

transferred
to the new
building.
