A message from the Department of Conservation and Recreation
As stewards of the Charles River Reservation and the Esplanade , the Department of Conservation and Recreation ( DCR ) is honored to be partners of this wonderful event . Since 1965 , thousands of people from across the world have descended onto the banks of the Charles River each year to watch world class athletes compete in the prestigious Head Of The Charles Regatta .
In order to ensure the regatta operates both efficiently and safely , DCR staff , in coordination with our public safety partners , event staff , and volunteers work tirelessly before , during , and after the event . They are one of many factors that ensures the annual Head Of The Charles Regatta is successful . Once concluded , the Charles River Esplanade is then seamlessly returned to normal for the thousands of individuals , families , and commuters who utilize the park every single day .
I am proud of this long partnership that has been fostered over the years , and I truly appreciate being able to participate in the operations of this event . I would like to thank the Head Of The Charles Regatta organization , all the partners of the event , and the DCR staff . Importantly , I would like to personally thank Angelo Tilas , who is retiring at the end of this year from the DCR . Angelo has diligently worked for the agency , and his commitment to the Charles River Esplanade is unparalleled .
We are all very fortunate to have such a beautiful public parkland within the City of Boston like the Charles River Esplanade ; please take time to observe and appreciate its natural surroundings , and have fun , stay safe , and enjoy this year ’ s Head Of The Charles Regatta !
