Hawthorne School Parent-Student Handbook 2016-2017 AFTER SCHOOL CARE The School-Age Child Care (SACC) of Hawthorne operates an after-school program from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The program is administered by parent volunteers and is not sponsored nor supervised by the Teaneck Board of Education. Enrollment is first come, first served. Children are provided with healthy snacks, enrichment programs, games, and a chance to do homework. EMERGENCY CLOSINGS If school is canceled because of bad weather or another emergency, you will be notified in several ways: 1. An automated phone message from the Superintendent of Schools or the School Principal. 2. You can check on school delays or closures on our web page at www.teaneckschools.org. 3. You can listen to AM radio stations WCBS 880, WOR 710, or WINS 1010, which broadcast school closings starting at about 6:00 a.m. 4. Five short siren blasts sounded at 7:00 a.m. and at 8:00 a.m. are Teaneck's signals that school is closed. 5. You may call the District Voice Mail number (201) 862-1200for up-to-date information. In some cases, there will be a late start, with school beginning at 10:30 a.m.Buses will pick up children approximately two hours later than normal. Children will have a shortened day and be dismissed at the regular time of 3:00 p.m. Please do not send children to school earlier than 10:15 on a day with a delayed opening. There will be no supervision before this time. 15
