Hawthorne School Parent-Student Handbook 2016-2017 PM PICK UP (CAR) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Turn onto Letter Ave. from Glenwood Ave. Follow the carpool line. Display your carpool number. Do not get out of the car while on the carpool line. Staff members will call your children to your car. For safety purposes please do not leave the carpool line until all cares in front of you have exited. 7. Please be patient! We will try to keep the line moving as quickly as possible. BUILDING SECURITY All steps must be taken to ensure to the utmost that students not be placed in circumstances in which they might be unlawfully taken from the school building. THE SCHOOL STAFF MUST KNOW EXACTLY WHERE EACH STUDENT IS AT ALL TIMES, AND HE/SHE MUST BE UNDER ASSIGNED TEACHER SUPERVISION THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DAY. Additional precautions to be taken for maximum security include the following:  Each member of this staff has the right and the responsibility to question strangers in the building. You might comment to a stranger: ―Have you been to the main office?‖ ―May I help you?‖ ―I am going in that direction and will show you the way, etc.‖  The Fycke Lane entrance and the Hawthorne Avenue entrance by the media center and the Lucy Avenue entrance by the main lobby are the only ones which are to be used for entry to the building. All other entrances will be locked from the outside. Every exterior door is equipped with a panic bar for regular and emergency exiting. The Hawthorne Avenue and Fycke Lane entrance is equipped with a card-key reader for entry by teachers and staff only.  Please do not hold the door open for anyone to enter even if you know the person.  All visitors to our building are required to report to the main office, sign-in and obtain a visitor pass.  While in the office, please be patient and wait your turn. Do not leave the office until the secretary gives you permission to do so and you have obtained a pass.  All visitors must state the following: Full Name 11
