Notes
s the calendar is flipped to a new
year, for one reason or another,
including weather, many of our
fellow fishermen hang up their rods and
reels and await the Spring. Those that
continue to fish may not do so at the same
pace as in recent months, but fish they
do and for good reason. The upcoming
quarter, while often referred to as Winter,
is really more of a combination of Fall
and Spring on the Gulf Coast with surely
some cold and nasty days mixed in, but
overall very fishable and pleasant much
of the time.
Another favorable aspect of this
quarter is that the fish are under less
pressure by anglers and more predictable
as their movement and feeding habits are
in synch with the weather. February/
March is also known for catches of
“monster” trout stalked by anglers with
the stealth of a deer hunter. Some of the
major considerations necessary to take up
this sport can be found in this issue’s
article by South Texas guide Danno Wise,
“Winter Wading Tips for Monster Trout.”
