The best way to do it from now on , that I could find , would be to decide on a lot of the material … And like , be prepared for the record . Go out and play it . Then go back and do it .

Can I ask why ?
Well there ’ s lots of different reasons . The first record of course we had 28 years to get together . The second one we had been on the road and cut it in the middle of being on the road . This one we had tried to come off the road and work on it – do preproduction and all this – without playing gigs . We realized that what was missing at first was not playing in front of people , because we had been away from not playing in front of crowds for seven weeks or so . So we went out and played about 10 gigs and came back and cut it like that .
That was a key ingredient . You actually have to be on the edge .
We missed that interaction with the people – if we don ’ t read it . The best way to do it from now on , that I could find , would be to decide on a lot of the material . We always cut more than we used by a long shot . And like , be prepared for the record . Go out and ...
And play the record live . Play it . Then go back and do it .
Always the best . The crowd is going to tell you something about the song whether it works or not .
Sure .
