July 20
travel the world!
Girl Scouts love to travel – from the field trips they take as Brownies
to the global adventures they go on as teens. And since our council includes
Ireland, England and Wales,
July 2016
27 counties in western Pennsylvania, we’re always offering opportunities that can
incorporate small amounts of travel into the mix. Shorter trips get girls ready for
even longer ones.
As girls experience different adventures, their skills, comfort levels, knowledge and
confidence grows! Daisies start with local trips nearby and work toward longer day
trips. Overnight trips are next – long enough to build a sense of adventure, but short
enough to ease homesickness.
As confidence grows, longer trips for Juniors and older are just the ticket. They lead
to national and international trips for our oldest adventurers.

Our own Katherine Stancil,
a Senior Girl Scout from
Gibsonia, had the outdoors
experience of a lifetime
recently as part of an all-Girl
Scout crew cleaning trails at
Shenandoah National Park.
T he Outdoors
Camping and Girl Scouts go together like chocolate, marshmallows and
graham crackers! Whether you grew up with camping in your blood or have never
set foot in a yurt, there are lots of ways to explore the outdoors through Girl Scouting.
Did you know Girl Scouts offers two series of outdoor badges that were chosen by
girls? Look for two badge series, Outdoor Explorer and Art in the Outdoors, available
in shops or at shop.gspwa.org. Leaders – once you’re in the Volunteer Toolkit, you can
also access the badge requirements through Create Your Own Year Plan under the
Year Plan tab.
Also be sure to check out Camp S’more, coming to you this winter!
