"The cover draws me in, blurb tells me if it's my kind of book. I certainly take recommendations into consideration. I have some favorite authors that I read without question. I've tried many indi authors, after meeting them through book parties/seeing them comment on authors I follow/ seeing posts by authors I follow about them. Charisma of the author is one of the biggest factors. (Example: Lilo J. Abernathy talked to me on twitter. I looked at her book, and it looked like my type, but I didn't have a kindle account. Eventually, I bought a paperback, read it, loved it, got the kindle app, so I could have access to more authors.)"

Kelly Erickson

"Friend suggestions is number one. But only if the friends have similar taste in books. Then blurb and reviews. Social Media interaction is a tricky one. If the author uses poor spelling and grammar in social media, it's a big turn off. A bad cover can also dissuade me from a book. For example, I am so sick of bare, headless male torsos that no matter how intriguing the book may sound, I won't buy it. I do read reviews, sampling from each star category."

"We have auto buy authors too. For others, more and more we are getting recs from friends & social media. Then we check out cover and blurb. If we are on the fence - we will look at reviews. Reviews can be helpful to reveal things that are pet peeves and/or triggers. If we like a book, price is not relevant. Wish more authors were on audio."

Cindy J. Smith

"I have a few authors I automatically buy, but these are what causes me to choose. Friend suggestions are a top priority for me. Reviews I rarely read, there are too many that are up by people who never read the book and you can't please everyone. Like Kelly Erickson I am tired of the models and half naked bodies, I normally will not buy such a book."

Joe Sledge

"Cover design, especially when the theme and feel fits the subject, can draw me to a book, but the sub title, the descriptive part, will make me turn it over and read the back page."
