Road Trip

Tips

Be prepared for anything that comes your way with these fantastic tips and tricks !
— BY LINDSAY SHAPKA

Before You Leave

Ask a friend or neighbour to keep an eye on your place , bring in your mail , feed your pets , and water your plants , etc ., while you are away — bribing them with cupcakes helps .
Leave your blinds and curtains exactly as you would keep them if you were at home . Noticeable changes could hint that you are not around anymore .
The same goes for your lights . Leaving a light on the entire time you are gone will signal that you are not home . If you are worried about security , you can always put your lights on a timer .
Unplug toasters , computers , and other appliances to protect them from power surges .
That plastic rock isn ’ t fooling anyone ! Remove your spare key from its hiding spot while you are away .
Empty your refrigerator of perishables .
Make sure all of your doors and windows are closed and locked ( don ’ t forget the doggie door !).
Store all valuables in a safe place .
Turn your heat or air conditioning down ( no need to heat or cool a space you won ’ t be in !).
