TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY .
We are a family of 6 traveling the world and worldschooling our 4 kids : Abbi ( 10 ), Jackson ( 8 ), Amelie ( 6 ), Ethan ( 3 ) and Vanessa ( Mom ) and Paul ( Dad )! We began our journey somewhat by accident , after attempting to settle down and buy a house like “ normal " people . In a whirlwind of events and after plans A through Y fell through , we decided that we were being guided to pursue our dream of traveling the world with our family . Plan Z ( which was really always plan A in our dreams ) finally feels right ! We love connecting with families worldwide and sharing all we have learned along the way ! We were both educators before becoming parents so teaching our children about the world is really important to us ! I ’ ve always dreamed of being a National Geographic photographer since I was a little girl and I ’ ve always wanted to be a mom , so traveling the world and photographing not only culture , but also my kids feels like my unconventional dream come true !
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE OPEN-ENDED TRAVEL FOR YOUR FAMILY ?
Honestly , it ’ s just more practical ! As much as we would love to have a home base and just take vacations a few times a year , it ’ s not really financially conducive for a family of 6 . Constantly flying between far off countries and home base could get expensive . Add cost of a mortgage , utilities , car payments … it just really adds up ! Traveling the world sounds expensive , but when you treat it like living abroad , but moving around a lot , it actually becomes much more affordable than you might think ! But beyond the practicality , it is amazing to have the option to go wherever we want and really feel like a GLOBAL citizen , rather than a resident of one town . When people ask where we are from , we kind of have this blank stare , and the thought crosses my mind , “ we are from EARTH !” Crazy right ?
