2 | LIVE OFF THE BEATEN EXPAT TRACK Kach Medina, 26, Philipines www.twomonkeystravelgroup.com WHY | I lived in Kurdistan, Iraq for 5 months. While living there I travelled up to the border of Iran. Kurdish people are amazing, the food is delicious and the scenery is stunning. Aside from the media portraying it as an evil and crazy place, I found it to be a very safe place to get around. While there are problems in Iraq and that can spill into areas of Kurdistan, the media generalizes the situation across the whole country, causing undue fear and negative attention for peaceful areas. Through travel, we can prove to the world that not everything is as terrible as a reputation would have us believe. HOW | Enter overland via Turkey and Georgia, or fly directly into Erbil. UK, US and EURO citizens can get a 14-day visa on arrival. I’m a Girl Gone International because I’ve broken away from the limiting social expectations of my culture, whilst inspiring others to take the same leap of faith. I can never really envision myself not travelling.
