There were games, challenges and lots of chatting and catching up with old friends. The day ended with an afternoon cream tea and sing-song. Each pen comes in it’s own special protective pouch and at just £1.50 each won’t break the bank. They are available from the office and can be collected if you want to avoid postage charges. Where does the time go? Essex West continues to be The Best and a lot has happened in this time. JP Awards We have just had our annual Jack Petchey Foundation presentations at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, see pictures on centre pages. Well done to all the girls and Leaders on your superb achievements. You are an inspiration to us all. Improving Access to Guiding We are, as a lot of you know, taking part in a pilot scheme for Girlguiding UK, for Improving Access into Guiding – so a big thank you to all of you who are involved with this. Lots of exciting things on the horizon. MBE Ann Matthews, right, has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List with an MBE – what an achievement! Congratulations Ann. County Fayre The Programme & Adventure Team have, as always, been busy – particularly with their latest event for all Sections – The County Fayre - a brilliant day was had by all. The girls moved around zones which included: Craft; Birds of Prey; Bouncy Castles (and more); Side Shows; Food etc. The weather was also very kind to us, again, see pictures on centre pages. County Team Most roles on the County Team have now been filled, except that of International Adviser(s). We still desperately need somebody to take on this role (or job share), but this isn’t holding the girls back – we will still have International Selection later this year (date to be confirmed) as I shall work with our Outdoor Activities Adviser, BP Adviser and TSS Adviser to make sure that this takes place! Training Our Training Team has a lot to offer – not just for those working on their Leadership Qualification – but a varied programme for everybody. Sadly we have had to cancel a training recently due to lack of attendees – trainings are relevant to all – please check the e-bulletin for what is on offer including: County Members’ Day The morning sessions (as in previous years) will be for training, however, the afternoon session this year will be solely based around Division Teams and Teamwork– so please make sure you get your booking in and come along to support your Division. The more members attending, the more chance the Division has to win the ‘Trophy’ (which is now on order). Please speak to your Division Commissioner. I look forward to meeting more of you as my term of office continues and wish you all the best in Guiding Chris Skinner County Commissioner W County Fayre fun for all at Chigwell 01708 373746 THE GIRLGUIDING ESSEX WEST NEWSLETTER is published three times a year for Leaders, Advisers, Members and supporters of Girlguiding in Essex West.
