This year, the Festival comes of age,
with a 21st birthday programme
featuring the very best of UK and
international outdoor arts. As always,
there will be large scale spectaculars,
such as our opening night event The
House, marking the 400th anniversary
of The Queen’s House, as well as
productions where you can get up close
and be swept up in the whole GDIF
experience.

Amongst the surprises for which the
Festival is now famous, you can lend
a hand constructing extraordinary
temporary architecture, watch a model
town being brought to life, experience
a dance performance inside a giant
sculptural head and encounter a herd of
mechanical creatures.
To help you make the most of the
Festival, this newspaper guide provides
details of the shows, schedules, maps
and suggested itineraries. Have a
fantastic Festival and why not join us
at Greenwich Fair for a 21st birthday
hokey cokey with Ida Barr?

Physical theatre, stilts, fire and special
effects in UK premiere from renowned
Polish company Teatr Biuro Podrózy
It gives me enormous pleasure to
welcome you to this special 21st
birthday edition of the Greenwich +
Docklands International Festival.
Year after year the festival
programme brings a host of new,
unusual and stunning spectacles
to thrill and delight our residents
and visitors alike. The festival
theme this year is transformation.
When the festival launched in 1996
it was a small, local affair which
has blossomed into an event of
unprecedented scope and scale.
