GAZELLE WEST Vol. 1, Issue 2 | Page 10

ABOUT OUR COVER MODEL Savannah Mercer 10 Gazelle: How did you get into modeling? Savannah: While attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, I was friends with a lot of photo majors who asked me if they could shoot pictures of me. I ended up loving it after working with my close friend Ben Alfonso. Though I’m not an actual model, I’m always willing to be photographed. Moving from New York, I was afraid I would lose the fashion opportunities I had there like photo shoots, volunteering at Fashion Week and going to shows. GAZELLE WEST Gazelle: What do you love about being a part of the fashion industry? Savannah: I’m just happy to meet passionate and creative people. It’s incredibly refreshing. Gazelle: What is your favorite movie? Savannah: Believe it or not, it’s got to be Inglourious Basterds. I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. Gazelle: Who inspires you? Savannah: I’m inspired by a lot of models in an artistic sense. I like to draw, and when I see someone very striking, I automatically want to grab a pen and sketch. In general, I would say my mother, Rei Kawakubo, and Sasha Pivovarova also inspire me. Gazelle: What do you do for fun? Savannah: Anything outdoors. It doesn’t matter if it’s just reading a book or talking or riding bikes, whatever. Being outside makes everything more enjoyable, especially when the weather is beautiful.
