FALL STYLE
By KRISTY LEE
Fall may not be the most exciting time of
our lives - in many aspects. A nip in the air
reminds us that a brutal winter could be
around the corner, crunchy leaves cover
formerly lush lawns, and the stress of the
holidays looms ever closer.
But one redeeming feature of fall that
makes the ushering in of winter much more
bearable is the great selection of clothes
offered by designers for fall and winter. This
is a big selling season for them, which means
better choices for us. Cold weather clothes
are more costly to produce, so manufacturers
put greater time and effort into making sure
they’re giving the consumer what they want.
Unlike winter looks, where our Missouri
weather means you’re pretty much just
rocking a cute coat every day, fall allows
for great styling potential. Clothes can
be layered with boots, scarves, jackets,
sweaters and accessories in ways that allow
every piece to be seen. I have a bit of a jacket
problem, in that I have about as many of
them as there are days between Halloween
and Thanksgiving, and I wish there was
more time to make use of them. Jackets are
a great investment though, since they can be
worn often and really complete a look.
Fall colors also work in our favor because
almost anyone can find a flattering tone.
This year, midnight blue, rich forest greens,
cognac colors, and wine-inspired hues of
red are most prevalent. Black and gray are
classic neutrals and coordinate well with
these palettes. If you’re not usually very
adventurous with your color choices in
clothing, try colorful jewelry or a scarf that
complements your skin tone. These items
can add a lot of visual interest to a look, and
they’re also pretty low-commitment.
Because of the great variety of clothes
fall weather allows us to wear, it can be
tempting to pull all of the neutral colored
clothing we have for the rest of the year and
throw something together. But when you’re
shopping this fall, try to find those fall
colors that suit you best and inject them into
your wardrobe. Make the most of this great
fashion season. Fall leaves may become
increasingly lifeless, but your closet doesn’t
have to match.
