The hit PBS series , “ Antiques Roadshow ,” is making a stop in St . Louis this summer . The show , known for discovering hidden treasures from homes across the country , is filming three one-hour episodes in town for its 2018 season . An all-day appraisal event takes place on Saturday , July 8 , when guests will receive free valuations for up to two items . Admission to the event is free , but tickets are required . The day-long event will feature activities along The Loop Planetary Walk , and solar-themed cocktails and dinner specials at Edwards ’ Moonrise Hotel & Eclipse Restaurant and at other dining and drinking establishments along Delmar Boulevard .
Insight Theatre Company is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year with a new home . Insight is kicking off its 10th season as a resident company at The . ZACK , a new performing arts venue in Grand Center developed by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation . The rock musical , “ Next to Normal ,” opens the season on June 8 ( through June 25 ), followed by “ On Golden Pond ” ( July 6 to 23 ) and “ Baskerville : A Sherlock Holmes Mystery ” ( Oct . 12 to19 ).
The St . Louis Symphony is ushering in its 50th year at Powell Hall with a new season lineup that boasts a repertoire from Mozart to Marsalis . The orchestra , now in its 138th season , has called Powell Hall home since 1968 , when the former Saint Louis Theatre reopened following a large-scale renovation . The 2017-2018 season begins Sept . 23 with a celebration of Mozart with pianist Emanuel Ax , and concludes with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in May 2018 .
In a few months , St . Louisans will witness an event 575 years in the making : A total solar eclipse that will create a 70-mile-wide moon shadow across the United States , including prime vantage points throughout the region . The eclipse will take place on Monday , Aug . 21 , with good visibility expected in St . Louis . The last total eclipse of the sun to pass over the area was in 1442 , 50 years before Christopher Columbus set sail for the New World . The Sheldon , The Bach Society and Union Avenue Opera will be making beautiful music together at the upcoming “ Coffee with Bach ” concert . Tickets to the 10 a . m ., Wednesday , May 17 event include coffee and pastries before the concert . The collaboration is presented as part of The Bach Society ’ s St . Louis Bach Festival , which runs April 20 through May 21 . The concert will open with Bach ’ s aptly titled miniopera , " The Coffee Cantata ,” followed by some of the most popular vocal selections from the classical and musical theatre repertoire .
