From the day he arrived , Shaw liked the fit with Transcona . Although the Railer Express had a tough start going 1-7-0 in the first eight games , they ’ ve been playing . 500 hockey in recent weeks . Shaw is also impressed with the community of Transcona , the team ’ s home rink and the way the fans support the team . “ The community is great and really supports us ,” he said . “ We ’ re in seventh spot now , but we have a lot of new guys and we ’ re getting to know each other and getting comfortable with each other . We ’ re a tough , disciplined team and as long as we stick to our coach ’ s game plan we ’ re going to make the playoffs .” To see Shaw smile is a testament to his heart , his passion for the game and his commitment to his team and his family . He has a tattoo of the pink breast cancer ribbon with his Mom Ingrid ’ s name on it and also has a tribute to her on his helmet ( which includes a big pink ribbon ). “ Obviously , to this day , I still think about it ,” he said of losing his mom . “ It ’ s part of my life and it ’ s going to be part of my life forever . It ’ s just a matter of looking at the bright side of things and realizing that everything that happens in life , happens for a reason . “ Everything I do is with a purpose .
