points . It ’ s too bad we had to let him go elsewhere , but it was a deal
that worked well for both teams .”
Last season in Portage , Wowryk had the chance to do something
that he had always dreamed of – winning the MJHL championship .
And as he tells , it was the opportunity of a lifetime . However , there
was more to the season than just the end result .
“ It was basically like a dream how we ended up winning the
league ,” Wowryk said . “ That was something that I ’ ve always wanted
to do in my junior career . I won a ring and got to know a great group
of guys from all around North America . It was actually really nice to
play with such a diverse team . We had guys from the States , British
Columbia , Alberta and Saskatchewan .”
It ’ s a good thing that Wowryk does so well at building relationships
because he had to start all over again in early November , when he
received word that he
would be packing his bags and
heading
back
to
Winnipeg , via trade .
“ I was actually
just getting off the ice at
practice
when
Blake called me into his
office ,” Wowryk
said . “ I wasn ’ t thinking
anything of it ,
but once I sat down he
told me I was
traded to the Blues . I

expect that , and was
quite shocked
when it happened
,

It was a move that nobody saw coming . Adam Wowryk was a player that Portage Terriers Head Coach and General Manager , Blake Spiller worked hard to acquire from the Selkirk Steelers early last season . It turns out that while playing in Portage , Wowryk blossomed .

Since breaking into the MJHL with Selkirk in 2013-14 , the 20-yearold has improved statistically every season . His 24 goals and 41 assists last year placed him eighth in league scoring – producing at more than a point-per-game rate . His work ethic and hockey smarts were on full display while in Portage and it had his former coach singing praises .
“ Adam Wowryk was a really good fit for us ,” Spiller said . “ We acquired him early last season from Selkirk , and that deal really paid off for us . Adam is just a solid guy that goes about his business and keeps putting up
