New York GAA has appointed Justin O’Halloran as the
new manager of their senior football team for the 2016 season.
The County Cavan native is 42 and has served as a selector
under Seamus Sweeney during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
New York will play Roscommon in Gaelic Park on Sunday
May 1, 2016 in the preliminary round in the Connacht Senior Football Championship. The winner of that tie will take
on Leitrim in the quarter-finals.
O’Halloran also represented New York for a decade and
has faced Roscommon both as a player and a trainer, in
2006 and 2011 which was the last time the Rossies’ visited
the Bronx.
“It’s a great honor to be given this role,” said O’Halloran.
“I’ve been very fortunate to represent New York as a
player and now I’m looking forward to gathering the best
players we have available and preparing for the game in
May.

“I have huge respect for the Roscommon team but we will
work hard and build a talented panel to take them on. I’m
very excited about this opportunity and I just can’t wait to
get started.”
New York County Board chairperson Laurence McGrath
welcomed the appointment of O’Halloran and wished the
new manager well for the campaign ahead.
“We are delighted that Justin took on this role,” said
McGrath.
“Taking part in the Connacht SFC is a highlight of our year
in New York and we always look to make it a truly special
occasion. Justin brings great experience and knows how important this is to our County Board.
“I want to thank Ian Galvin and his management team for
all their work over the last two years. I would also urge our
clubs and members to get behind Justin and his management
team for what will be a great journey.”
