Parole Assists Inmate Families

Department of Corrections' Family Day

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles participated in the Georgia Department of Corrections’ Family Day held January 8, 2016. The event was conducted at State Offices South in Forsyth, the headquarters for the Department of Corrections.

“We realize many questions posed to the Department of Corrections at Family Day actually are parole questions. This was an opportunity to provide a service to inmate families. It also allowed for continued collaboration with our criminal justice partner, the Department of Corrections,” said Director of Parole Chris Barnett.

Clemency hearing examiners for the Parole Board were at the event, answering parole questions from inmate families.

Barnett says most parole questions asked in person can easily be addressed by the preferred methods of calling the call center at 404-656-4661 or sending an email to the agency webmaster at [email protected].

“We did have a couple of goals for this event today,” stated Barnett. We wanted to educate those here about the parole process and answer the questions they had concerning their individual specific cases. This was a good opportunity to assist families and we’re hopeful to be able to participate at more events in the future.”

Inmate families also can learn if an inmate has a board decision by visiting the Parole Board’s website at www.pap.georgia.gov and access the Offender/Inmate Parole Status feature on the homepage at http://pap.georgia.gov/inmate-tpm-lookup. By entering the inmate’s information (GDC ID or inmate number), you can determine if the inmate has been granted a tentative parole month (TPM).

More than 400 people attended the Family Day.
