“So much to see, so much for free” is a mantra
for our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., and a
visit there should include a stop at Washington
National Cathedral. Built between 1907 and
1990, the neo-Gothic design holds has touches of
contemporary elements. The cathedral contains
everything from gargoyle-looking figurines to an
actual lunar rock, and it is used for services as well
as concerts and lectures.

Islamic Center of Long Island
The Islamic Center of Long Island (New York)
offers a 500-seat worship center in the prayer
room. Built between 1989 and 1991, the center
continues to expand to meet the needs of a
growing congregation. The mosque is active
in many interfaith and outreach initiatives to
promote understanding and tolerance, and the
building blends traditional Islamic architecture with
American design elements.
