PR E PA R ATORY S C HO OL Letter from Year 4 Camp Dear Mum, Dad, Glen, Dylan and Christina, How are you? I’m going well. We arrived at camp safely. When we got there we had a talk about safety, what we are doing and who is in each dorm. I am in Oliver’s dorm. We had Jack B, Josh B, Josh H, Thomas M, Harry, Tei P, Tye C, Oliver D and Ewan in our down. My group was number 5. In our group we had Holly, Deakon, Josh H, Caitlin, Tom, Evan O, Mu (Lemarna), Charlie F, Harrison, Bianca and Ewan. For our activities we did abseiling and low ropes. The abseiling was fun. We did thumb-to-bum if we were going too fast and if we fell we had people at the bottom. The ropes were quite hard. There were tyres, parallel ropes, vertical ropes and ropes to hold on to. Afterwards we went back to our dorms and had a nice hot refreshing spirit making shower. For dinner we had lasagne and it was delicious! We also had desert which was apple crumble with custard. It was OK but not the best. We then brushed our teeth and went to bed in our nice freezingcold dorms. We were most likely the loudest room in the world and could be heard over Mr Ashby’s snoring! Day 2 We woke up at 6.45am (group 5) because we were on breakfast duty ‘sigh’. There was cereal and pancakes. I had some cereal and six pancakes! After that we did the incentive course. It was tiring, wet, scary (the cows!) and muddy! There were check points like a mini fox (flying) and the water chute looked… AWESOME! It’s a shame that it lead to a part where the cows were going to EAT US (joking)! We then did initiative games. We had four balls and we had to throw our ball to someone opposite us, but a twist was that you had to remember who you passed it to. We also had to make letter A, B, C etc. We lost by one point. Then we did orienteering, which was fun. You had to find letters which made a word which was, sabretooth. I can’t remember what we had for tea that night but I remember that afterwards we had ice-cream and jelly. We watched Matilda until 9.00pm. When we went to bed I was knackered and fell straight to sleep. Eating their way through Europe Students in Year 5 had a special end of term event to celebrate their learning in Geography. The students had been studying all aspects of Europe, looking at climates, physical features and natural resources. They each studied a particular European country and completed some extensive research on it, then wrote a speech to persuade their audience to travel to their country. To celebrate all of their hard work, the students brought in a traditional dish from the country they studied, dressed up in traditional clothing or colours of that country and shared their speeches with one another. 52 When we walked through the door the food smelled magnificent! It was amazing, there was food from nearly all of the countries in Europe. Everyone just wanted to dig in and try something new. Dessert was even better than main course and we loved the vibrant colours to choose from. It was fun dressing up in a variety of costumes and trying to guess which country our friends came from. At the end of the Feast everyone got together for a photo to remember our celebration together. – Zane Murabito-Jones and Angus Wilson (5W) Day 3 (last day☹) We had breakfast, which was cereal and egg on toast. I only had cereal. We made boomerangs after that. They were all very good. After breakfast we tackled the BIG FOX which was AWESOME. It was 200m long, but it took a bit to get back up to the fox again. For lunch we had sausage rolls. Then we loaded our bags into the trailer and boarded the bus back to school. We got there at 3:15pm (about) unpacked our bags and went home. Love Liam XOXOX
