Claude Huxtable ( He 1939-1945 ), known as Mr Solve It or Mr Fix It , was a qualified fitter and turner , and self-taught innovator , who applied his ingenuity to the timber , mining and rail industries . At one time he saved the Banksiadale timber mill from closure . He designed replacement equipment that would have been otherwise sourced from the United States and would have taken six months to arrive . A team worked with Claude around the clock over the weekend and had the mill operating again on Monday morning . He also worked for Speno Rail Mantenance for 16 years , and he designed and oversaw the building of many of Speno ’ s rail-grinding trains and rail-testing equipment .
Michael Adams ( He 1951-1952 ) was an inaugural member of the South West Football League Hall of Fame inducted in late 2015 . This goes with the same award in the W . A . Master Rules over 35 ’ s . A team mate in the local club is Angus Smith ( Fr 1983-1987 ).
David Copeland ( He 1953-1954 ) now resides in Hawthorn , Victoria , and recently survived an aortic aneurism as well as a replacement of a valve . Life is now at a slightly slower pace , but David still enjoys his flourishing garden plot , cricket tours and of course AFL Football .
David Malcolm ( Sc 1950-1955 ), the former Chief Justice of Western Australia and Companion of the Order of Australia ( AC ), sadly died on 20 October 2014 . He was recently honoured by the announcement that the new home for the Supreme Court , at Cathedral Square in Perth ’ s CBD , would be named in his honour . The David Malcolm Justice Centre is due to be completed in July 2016 .
John Sims ( He 1949-1955 ) has completed the restoration of a Super Modified race car , the very same race car he built in 1969 . Back in the day it was racing at Claremont with a Dog Box Transmission and was the only car racing

After a season John was told by the stewards he would have to install a clutch , but John refused and switched to bathtub racing which did not require a clutch to compete . The car was sold and its journey eventually saw it end up on a farm . In poor condition with rust and bullet holes , the car had been cannibalised and missed significant parts , such as the 283ci Chevy engine . After it ’ s fate had come to John ’ s attention , he was able to regain possession and so began an 18-month restoration of the car , culminating with the car gracing the track of Perth Motorplex in April 2014 .
David Coleman ( St 1954-1956 ) sadly passed away , on 14 November 2015 , after a 2-year battle with Mesothelioma .
Asvin Smarnond ( Prep / Sc 1957-1962 ) has been accepted as a member of the Old Guildfordians ’ Lodge in 2013 . He is a past Master of Lodge St . John no . 1072S . C ., and a member of the District Grand Lodge of the Middle East located in Malaysia . He is also an Honorary Grand Sword Bearer of the Grand Lodge of Scotland . Asvin has travelled twice to Edinburgh , the Headquarters of the Grand Lodge of Scotland , once to purchase some masonic regalia and once with the District delegation . Asvin has performed as a member of the Installing Board many times . He attended local Lodge meetings regularly and had attended two meetings of the Old Guildfordians ’ Lodge in Perth , having to travel from Bangkok . He still performs floor works and has plans to attend the Installation meeting of Old Guildfordians ’ Lodge when it is possible . In 2016 Asvin will have been a Mason of his mother Lodge for 50 years .
David Blair ( St / Wb 1961-1963 ), a professor , has led a team to detect a gravity wave as first proposed , but never proved , by Albert Einstein .
Arnold Green ( Prep / Sc 1955-1963 ), and wife Lynda , celebrated their 30th Wedding Anniversary on 8 December 2015 . To mark the occasion they took a cruise in February 2016 .
Alexander Paterson ( Prep / He 1961-1965 ) has enjoyed a passion for dog showing over the years and was especially active in this arena from 1973 to 1984 . He exhibited Golden Retrievers and Clumber Spaniels and won major awards with these breeds . In 1983 Aust . Ch . Casawynk Campaigner became the only dog to ever officially complete the RAAF Richmond Great Base Race . In 1996 Alex also completed a Certificate of Aromatherapy at the Australian Institute of Holistic Medicine .
Simon Carroll ( He 1965-1969 ) rode the 700km Hawaiian Ride for Youth on 5-9 April with other Old Guildfordian riders in Craig Pensini ( He 1976-1980 ), Roger Piggott ( He 1982-1986 ), Rob Breden ( He 1982-1988 ) and Aaron Begley ( Be 1985-1988 ). Ride for Youth aims to increase awareness of youth mental health issues and to raise funds for Youth Focus . A record number of 143 cyclists , 38 support crew and three separate pelotons participated in the 700km ride from Albany to Perth . The above Old Guildfordians were amongst the 62 cyclists traversing the ‘ coastal route ’ from Albany to Denmark , Pemberton , Busselton , Mandurah and on to Perth . Ride for Youth 2016 raised a whopping $ 2.33m , which makes it one of the largest charity events in WA . Youth Focus is a unique and independent not-for-profit organisation , and it supports vulnerable young people in Western Australia by offering a range of mental health services . The funds enable more than 2,000 young people to have free and direct access to counsellors each year , with counsellors stationed in various towns in the South West as well as Perth . Riders train for 5-6 months often covering more than 7,000km to achieve the required fitness for the ride and conduct fundraising events during that time with each rider contributing at least $ 5,000 to participate . Along the three routes ( Coastal , Inland and Wheatbelt ), the riders stop at high schools where a volunteer rider will give a short talk of their experience relating to mental well-being , and then students and riders talk informally . Simon Carroll , Aaron Begley and Rob Breden all gave presentations .
John Day ( Wb 1968-1972 ), Member of the Legislative Assembly and Minister for Health ; Culture and the Arts , is now officially the longest-serving Arts Minister in Western Australia . During May 2016 , John spent some time with British actor Martin Clunes on Rottnest Island , the location for part of the Australian documentary series Islands of Oz .
Dalton Gooding ( Ha 1968-1972 ) is now chairman of sandalwood producer TFS . Dalton has continued his relationship with Claremont Football Club , a club Dalton played for in the West Australian Football League , as TFS is now the major sponsor of the Tigers .
Nigel McCombe ( SG 1967-1972 ) is now based in Melbourne working as a freelance Project Manager . He left the Department of Treasury in Perth after 16 years of State Government work in WA .
