Tipping competitions
The tipping competitions have proven
a popular way to engage with members
in a bit of friendly rivalry. To help make
things interesting, prizes are always on offer
whether they be prizes for members of
The Old Guildfordians Association only, or
intercommunity prizes where our members
compete against those from other schools,
universities and associations. Rankings are
shown by the tipping system, so you can
track your success overall and monitor how
you compare against mates from your year
and house.
Not only did John Petersen (Wb 19611964) win the 2015 Rugby World Cup
tipping contest for Old Guildfordians,

he also won the intercommunity prize, a
Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, while competing
against 2000 members from other
communities and associations from around
the globe. Out of a possible 48 games
he guessed 45 correct plus the bonus six
points for guessing the final winner at the
start of the competition (New Zealand).
Of John’s three incorrect guesses, one was
South Africa’s unexpected loss to Japan,
and another was backing Australia in the
final (a patriotic selection he made just prior
to the game, this was despite his earlier
prediction that New Zealand would win). It
was an amazing performance and John was
a deserving winner.
