PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Our beautiful Perth weather was once again the most talked about detail leading up to this year ’ s Preparatory School Quarter Swimming Carnival , which was held on Tuesday 16 February . Presenting us with 40 degree heat and a minimal easterly breeze , all efforts were made to keep everyone cool and allow swimmers to perform at their best .
Thankfully , FOPS were well prepared as always and kept us all fed and watered . Mr Wight , our new Head of Preparatory School , took it upon himself to multi-task and both introduce himself and keep the crowd ‘ cool ’ using spray bottles ! Shade erected earlier with the help of Crackajack Hire and our Maintenance Department went a long way to keeping students , parents and teachers out of the sun . Before we knew it , students were racing and our Dolphin Timing System , supplied by our resident Guildford Kalamunda Swimming Club ( GKDSC ), was working overtime !
All Year 4-6 students swam their very best and it was a great joy watching so many of them showcase the hard work they had been putting into their lessons and squad sessions . There were many strong and close races and many students swimming in a higher division than they were in last year . Our Head Swimming Coach , Mr Brett Tongue , was heard to say how pleased he was with the technique being shown across the year levels – a testament to the GKDSC Learn to Swim program ! Staff in Quarter bays were also impressed by the students ’ sportsmanship and how they were congratulating and cheering their fellow team members on .
Towards the end of the program , the crowd was treated to a wonderful display of swimming talent when Year 6 student , Ryder Attwood-Faudet set two new records in the 50m Freestyle ( 31.64sec ) and the 50m Butterfly ( 36.10sec ), breaking

records set in 2001 and 2000 respectively . Well done , Ryder !
When all the races had finished it was time for the Quarter Relays to begin . South was victorious in winning the Moore Cup for the Quarter Relay Champions with two first and two third places across the four relays . However , close behind them with two points difference was West , who later went on to be declared the overall Champion Quarter for 2016 . Well done West !
While the points were being tallied , the crowd was entertained by a ‘ Staff Novelty Relay ’. Calling it a relay was apparently a loose term for sabotage and chaos with many staff in fancy dress trying to win by any means necessary . Mr Wight couldn ’ t resist being a part of it , jumping in the water suit and all !
Before long , calm and order was restored and trophies and medallions were presented by a very wet Mr Wight . These amazing trophy and medallion winners are listed below .
Many thanks to the parents for their fantastic support and GKDSC , FOPS and of course the GGPS staff for a wonderful event .
