SENIOR SCHOOL
Boarding
Boarding at Guildford Grammar School continues to be a busy, happy and
thriving environment both for students and staff. As we approach the half-way
point of Term 2, the boys in the Senior School have their exams looming and
are working consistently and putting into practice their study planners. The
Year 7 and Year 9 boys have also completed their NAPLAN testing.
I am confident the boys performed very well.
I had the privilege of accompanying 14 boys from the Junior Hall to a rewards
dinner at Alfred’s Kitchen, with a quick trip across the road for an ice-cream for
dessert. The boys worked consistently in first term on their academic standing
and thoroughly deserved and enjoyed their mid-week outing.
Our boys are really starting to make an effort with their rooms; the
introduction of a rewards system is certainly paying dividends, with cleaning
and maintenance staff passing on many positive comments.
Our Year 8 boys are looking forward to their camp experience in Week
5, starting on the Monday and concluding on Thursday afternoon before
the mid-term break. The Year 7 boys returned from their camp last term
positively glowing.
The weekend recreation activities this term are proving popular for our boys,
with a great variety of events on offer, from Bounce to movie nights and Lazer
Tag. We all know that busy and engaged boys are happy boys!
I spoke to the boarding community recently at our formal dinner (well-dressed
Wednesday) and relayed the positive message I received from Mrs Bernie
Evans in regards to our Head of Boarding, Mr Brad Evans, and his progress
after major surgery. The news was wonderful and the surgical team were very
happy with the outlook following the surgery.
