Derek Allton ( Sc 1940-1949 ), a retired Anglican priest , now lives in Brisbane and was sorry to be an apology for the Brisbane Reunion on 10 September 2016 . He was born in Singapore , the son of Eric , a British merchant seaman seconded into the Royal Navy , and Dorothy . Derek was sent to Perth for his years of boarding school at Guildford Grammar School . He trained for and was ordained an Anglican priest , later married Margaret in the School Chapel in 1958 , and they subsequently had five children . Derek would often re-tell many stories of his happy times in the boarding school dormitories , rowing up the Swan River and sampling some grapes from vineyards . Derek ’ s parents did not return to Australia until sometime after the war , so the School was very much his home and the students and staff his family . He recently moved into an aged care home as he is not as mobile as he used to be . When packing some of Derek ’ s belongings , the family found a copy of the Guildford Grammar School publication called “ Tall Stories ” which was written by past students , and Derek was one of them . He is an avid reader and he really enjoyed re-reading his chapter and all of the others . Derek ’ s family has also enjoyed the stories and learning some more things about their father ’ s childhood .
