OLD GUILDFORDIANS Richie Longson (He 1981-1985), after working in the travel industry for 28 years, was appointed Guilford Grammar School’s Director of Community Relations as of 11 August 2014. Darius MacLiver (Wb 1982-1986) is still regularly keeping in touch with good Old Guildfordian friends such as John Marriott (Wb 1982-1986), Justin Miller (Wb 1985-1986), Carl Garreffa (Wb 1982-1986), Michael Daffen (Wb 1982-1986) and Cameron Alexander (Wb 1983-1987). Always plenty of stories! Kenneth Maisey (Sc 1982-1986) is settling back into Kalgoorlie after 20 years away from the town, and 14 years away from Western Australia after living in the Eastern States. Lloyd Constantine (Wb 1984-1988) is married with three children. He is also the General Manager Sales and Marketing at Vasse Felix, Margaret River’s premier wine estate. Malcolm Wells (Wb 1987-1991) was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) for distinguished command in warlike operations as Commanding Officer of the 7th Battalion, the RAR Task Group. While Malcolm is very proud to be recognised in this way, he is even more proud of what his unit was able to accomplish during their tour in Afghanistan. Simon Hall (Be 1993-1994) and Stephan Lakis (Be 1989-1994) couldn’t make it back to Australia, so they caught up on 16 August 2014 for a mini 20 year reunion of their own. While enjoying Australian beer, the day and night was spent discussing the merits of good times at GGS. It is amazing how quickly the time has gone, but the memories of winning the rugby, snakes, the geology fieldtrip, and the legendary status of Mr Chris Durrant (Staff 1988-2007) all came up as hot topics. Simon is about to start a new academic year teaching at University of West of England and finally submitting his Masters. Stephan Lakis (Be 1989-1994) caught up on 16 August 2014 with Simon Hall (Be 19931994) for a mini 20 year reunion in the United Kingdom. Stephan lives in London and has been working on building the new underground tunnels in London. He decided to go travelling around the globe for six months with Nada, his wife, starting in November 2014. Mark Williams (SG 1992-1996), and his lovely wife Verity, proudly announced the birth of their first child Cooper on 15 January 2014. Cooper was in a bit of a rush and this resulted in him being delivered at home by his unprepared father. Brett Nottle (SG 1997-2001) and Nicholas Sattler (Sc 1999-2001) have opened a new bar and restaurant called Sampson’s Paddock on 3 Glyde Street, Mosman Park. Located in the historic heritage listed buildings, which were the first shops built in Mosman Park, the design of Sampson’s paddock has been centred on keeping the charm of the 110 year old building. Benjamin Kelly (He 2002-2005) is now working at Qantas as an Auto-Electrician. Ben and his partner have a beautiful daughter. Douglas Brownlie (Sc 2003-2007) has just moved from northern Queensland, where he was overseer on a cattle station, to a new job down in the cold country, out of Holbrook NSW, where he is working on a farm that has a Suffolk sheep stud. There is no end of work available for a lad with country experience and he and his girlfriend had the choice of several positions all around the country. David Armstrong (Sc 1997-2010) a student of the University of Western Australia, is currently on a university exchange for a semester in the United States of America. He is studying at Bellarmine University, Louisville, Kentucky, and he is enjoying himself enormously. David keeps in regular contact with the Old Guildfordians Association as he is a member of the management committee and the current Treasurer. Angus Brownlie (Sc 2005-2010) is with the Australian Defence Force as a sapper based in Townsville. He has the rank of a Private in the Combat Engineer Regiment. Jack Metcalf (Sc 2006-2013) has taken an apprenticeship with Macmahon Mining as an auto electrician. He is enjoying the job and feels he has chosen the right career. Jack is still racing motocross and is sponsored by Penrite Australia.
