In Term 2, the Year 6 cohort went from
uniforms and textbooks to costumes and
makeup, and put on a full scale production
of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. The
production was held in the David Lawe
Davies Centre over two nights in July. Sold
out crowds watched Alice chase the White
Rabbit, race the Dodo Bird, get tied up with
the Tweedles, rap with a bubble-blowing
Caterpillar and beat the Queen of Hearts at
her own game!
We were blessed this year to work with
such an amazing group of students, and
were impressed with the skills and overall
attitude of the Year 6 students. Involvement
in a project such as this helped teach the
importance of teamwork, respect and regard
for self and others. Strong commitment was
particularly evident from those students who
may not have received their role of choice,
but still showed dedication and enthusiasm
during every rehearsal.
For many of these Year 6 students, Alice
in Wonderland was their first big stage
experience. Being part of a musical
production, the students had an opportunity
to sharpen their singing, dancing, drama
and stagecraft skills. Each performance,
despite some nervousness and the
mandatory hiccups, had some shining
moments. We were excited and extremely
proud of every student.
