Footsteps Faces of the Future Summer 2016 | Page 2

FACES of the Future This edition of Footsteps has just three stories, but they represent the various stages of our scholarship program – one woman starting her CAI scholarship journey, one in the middle of her journey, and one who has graduated from the program and is giving back to others. Shafia, a former scholarship student, made sure hundreds of girls got the same opportunities she did by working for CAI partner organization Star of Knowledge in Afghanistan. Mushtari, a scholarship student since 2014, wants to design a school so CAI students have a safe place to study. Harmeen, a chemistry student and new scholarship recipient, has a world of opportunity in front of her and there is no telling how many lives she will change for the better because of the education she is getting right now. These are just three stories of many. There are countless other young women who show just as much promise, who have just as much potential – Bibi Safia wants to be a psychologist in Pakistan; Dilrabo wants to be a journalist in Tajikistan; and Farah wants to be a judge in Afghanistan. CAI currently supports 615 scholarship recipients. They include students of all ages, ethnicities, and careers, and span three countries. These young women, and the hundreds of applicants who apply each year, are the faces of the future. Meet the students See what the future looks like. Scholarship students tell their stories in their own words. View the videos online at centralasiainstitute.org/summer-campaign. 2 | CENTRAL ASIA INSTITUTE
