SEDALIA, MO
Looking for something off the beaten path? How about, off the tracks? Check
out Kehde’s Barbeque in Sedalia, Missouri. Sure, good bbq can be found in
all corners of this country, but none have the atmosphere like Kehde’s. The
restaurant is located in a classic 1920s train car. As a “local icon,” the restaurant
has been owned and operated by the same family for over three generations,
and is home to specialty sandwiches that will blow your mind.
A popular order is the Miss Piggy, which is a pork loin sandwich (deep fried or
grilled), and topped with smoked ham, provolone, and Kehde’s special sauce.
Piled high on a toasted bun, this pork overload is enough to make you do backflips - or possibly just send you into a food coma. The best part about Miss Piggy
is that she’s only $6.99!
The famous Sampler includes half a slab of ribs and half an entire chicken, or
a choice of two smoked meats, that is served with Texas toast and two sides, to
boot. This is perhaps one of the only “pricier” items on the menu, at $20 and is
arguably enough food for two people.
Posh potatoes are where it’s at when dining at Kehde’s. What are they? Try
the Original Posh: a baked potato served buttered and seasoned, stuffed with
smoked ham, melted provolone, sour cream, and green onions. You can see
where this is going, and there are a variety of Poshes to choose from, including
the Fajita Posh, the Mexican Posh, the Cheddar Posh, the Society Posh, and the
Garden Posh. All Posh potatoes are only $6.99.
Kehde’s Barbeque is famous for its smoked meats and sauces, but it isn’t a
limited establishment. Though the train car has long since stopped traveling
for miles on end, the possibilities continue to explore boundaries that no bbq
restaurant has ever dared to go before.
Whether you’re looking to spice up your taco life with a little Samurai Sauce from
BIG & little’s, or if you’re wanting to dive face first into a buttery baked potato, loaded unlike any other at Kehde’s, you can do so for pennies on the dollar. $20 bucks
goes a long way in the foodie world, as long as you know where to look, and what
to look for!
