Lee Varis is a photo-illustrator now working in the Boston area . He has been involved in commercial photography for over 40 years . He started working with computer imaging over 20 years ago and currently works with digital as well as conventional photography in conjunction with computer graphics to create images for use in print advertising .
Lee ’ s work has been featured on movie posters , video box covers , CD covers , numerous brochures and catalogs . He is responsible for the moth on the “ Silence of the Lambs ” movie poster , as well as photos of the Starship Enterprise

This new approach offers amazing control utilizing the unique channels of the 3 main color workspaces : RGB , Lab , and CMYK , to re-shape the tonal contours of the photographic image , using the 10 available channels . Lee will examine this approach to photo image enhancement using a number of different images that display common problems . You will see how to lighten overly dark skin tones and darken overly light skin tones . You will see how to enhance saturation using Lab color mode , how to pop highlights , lighten dark green foliage , darken blue skies , and extract details unlike anything you ’ ve seen before .

Lee will show numerous examples of techniques for still life , product , industrial , and landscape photography to create amazing illustrative effects . He will also construct a complete image step-by-step in Photoshop from multiple , separately lit images blended together into a seamless composite-light photograph .

Lee Varis will lead you on an improvisational adventure in creative tabletop photography . You will assemble a still life composition from a collection of objects , props , textures , backgrounds and surfaces . Then Lee will demonstrate various lighting approaches using simple LED flashlights to create extraordinary images ! This extremely fun exercise in thinking “ out of the softbox ” will get your creative juices flowing and provide a lot of material for further experimentation . The 2nd part of the workshop is an exploration of image assembly in Photoshop . Using the images captured in the workshop , Lee shows how to blend lighting in layers to build up impossible lighting “ looks ” that transcend the sum of their parts ! Suggested Gear List : DSLR camera with fully charged battery , memory cards , and a flash ( if you have one ).
