Light-hearted and very indepen-

dent films are well-represented

at SXSW too. Joe Swanberg and

Jake Johnson team up for the

Netflix film “Win It All,” opening

April 7. It’s Swanberg’s best yet

with the cohesive yet comical

storyline about gambling

addiction, love, and one bad

decision begets another, all in

amusing ways. Following that

good nature is Jason Headley’s

first feature film “A Bad Idea

Gone Wrong.” It’s an old-fashioned,

good time filled with miscommuni-

cations and slapstick situations that’ll make you laugh out loud.

Last, but definitely not least, is the much talked about, big blockbuster film, Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver,” starring Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, and Jon Hamm. It’s a fast-paced, high-action, intense thriller filled with great car chases, lots of shooting, and a soundtrack that will make any audiophile feel like they’re climbing the stairway to heaven.

The SXSW Film Festival is elevating itself to the level of other prestigious festivals across the country while still maintaining a casual element of fun and supporting truly independent new filmmakers. This festival, previously lauded for the music component, is quickly becoming a festival for the best in

filmmaking.
