CANADA 150 March 2 , 2017 – March 31 , 2018
Canada became a nation in 1867 and 2017 marks Canada ’ s 150th birthday . Major events are planned across Canada to celebrate all year long with our country ’ s official 150th birthday being on July 1 , 2017 .
DID YOU KNOW ? Canada was much smaller in 1867 . It only included four provinces : Ontario , Quebec , New Brunswick and Nova Scotia . British Columbia became part of the country in 1871 .

Local photographer Kyle Hamilton has documented the everyday face of Fernie from 2015 to 2017 by capturing
Fernie residents in a series of dramatic portraits . Each subject tells the story of why they live in Fernie and the importance of community and place . Related programming includes a series of hosted discussions to explore perceptions of place , identity , and community .
Maple Leaf Tulips Fernie Eco Garden | Spring
When the flowers begin to bloom in April , take a walk to the Fernie Eco Garden on 5th Street and enjoy the spectacular display of Maple Leaf Tulips . Local gardeners and volunteers have planted a special design with the tulips as part of the Canada 150 celebrations and look forward to sharing it with you this spring !
