Carver Co. Dairy Expo is Feb. 15

If you’re interested in the dairy industry, the Carver
County Dairy Expo is an event you won’t want to miss.
The 2016 expo will take place Monday, Feb. 15 from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central High School, 531 Morse St.
N. in Norwood Young America.
Fifty vendors will showcase dairy-related products
and services, and educational seminars take place
throughout the day. Tickets are $10 at the door ($5 for
students with ID), and include lunch, refreshments, and
program notes. Lunch is served at 12:45 p.m.
Each year, more than 300 people attend this event,
representing over 8,000 cows and 24 Minnesota counties.
Morning sessions (starting at 10:30 a.m.)
• Forage Management for High Quality and Maximum Tonnage, presented by Dr. Dan Undersander, forage research and extension, University of Wisconsin. A
discussion of harvest management practices to minimize ash in forages.
• Calf Immunology, presented by Max Thornsberry,
DVM, dairy technical specialist, Milk Specialties Global. Learn how to have healthier calves by understanding and improving their immune systems.
• Genomics in Dairy Cattle, presented by Matt
Boyle, DVM, dairy technical specialist, Zoetis. Learn
how genomics technology can be applied to improve
your herd’s genetic progress.

• Global Observations of the Dairy Industry . . .
and What to Do About It, presented by Gary Sipiorski,
director of dairy development, Vita Plus
Afternoon sessions (starting at 2:15 p.m.)
• Maximize Your Forage Tonnage, presented by
Dr. Dan Undersander, forage research and extension,
University of Wisconsin. Consider stand density, fertilization, and harvest management for higher yield and
quality.
• Calf Health Discovery, presented by Max Thornsberry, DVM, dairy technical specialist, Milk Specialties
Global. A post-mortem dissection of a calf fetus as a
teaching tool.
• Keeping Cows in Today’s Economic Environment, presented by Jim Salfer, dairy educator, University of Minnesota Extension. What does it take in today’s
economy to keep your business thriving? n
