When Pope Benedict XVI resigned in February 2013 there were speculations over his possible successor. Several names were floated including that of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the Archbishop of Manila in Philippines. But Cardinal Tagle did not make it. Pope Francis beat them all. Recently The Seed caught up with Cardinal Tagle at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Nairobi. He was there as a guest speaker at the 5th International Conference and Assembly of the International Association of Catholic Missiologists. We bring you excerpts from the interview.
At 56, how do you feel being among the youngest cardinals in the Church? I feel overwhelmed by this calling to serve the church as a Cardinal. Being young helps me for I have time ahead to learn a lot.
